Chapter 4: Long Day Working

You enter your house slowly, eyelids hanging, threatening to close. You hang your keys back up and allow your coat to slip off your shoulders.

“Merlin?” Tara calls. She then appears from the kitchen, her smile broad. “How was your day?”

 

You look at her and try to smile. It doesn’t fool her. “Not good,” you say, defeated. Feeling your heart heavy in your chest, you lean against the wall. Tara runs to your side.

 

“What's the matter?” she asks.

 

Through tears in your eyes, you look at her and sigh. “He got away,” you whisper. “And he took the kid.”
