Chapter 4: Long Day Working

You enter your house slowly, eyelids hanging, threatening to close. You hang your keys back up and allow your coat to slip off your shoulders.

“Merlin?” Tara calls. She then appears from the kitchen, her smile broad. “How was your day?”

You look at her and try to smile. It doesn’t fool her. “It was good,” you say. “Manage to get an arrest.”

“Oh,” she says, approaching you. “Then what’s wrong?”

“I don’t know,” you say. “Evidence lines up, and she confessed.” You look into your wife’s eyes. “I just don’t—” You stop yourself.

“You don’t know if she was the right one,” Tara finishes for you. Her words sum up your thoughts instantly and without hesitation.

“I think I got the wrong person,” you whisper.
